Pagelaran akbar bagi para insan perfilman Hollywood Academy Awards 2012, tak lama lagi akan siap digelar pada tanggal 26 Februari 2012. Para nominator peraih piala Oscar pun semalam (24/1), juga telah resmi diumumkan di Beverly Hills, California, Amerika Serikat.Di nominasi sutradara terbaik, Martin Scorsese yang belum lama ini terpilih di kategori serupa melalui ajang Golden Globe 2012 lewat film Hugo, kembali berpeluang meraih piala Oscar 2012 bersama pesaing ketatnya seperti Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), Alexander Payne (The Descendants), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), dan Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life).
Ternyata tidak hanya Martin Scorsese saja yang berkesempatran meraih piala Oscar 2012 di kategori yang sama dalam ajang Golden Globe 2012. George Clooney dan Meryl Streep diketahui juga kembali masuk dalam nominasi aktor serta aktris terbaik Academy Awards ke-84 ini. Seperti diketahui, George Clooney berhasil meraih Aktor Terbaik: Drama lewat filmThe Descendants dan Meryl Streep dinobatkan sebagai Aktris Terbaik: Drama melalui film The Iron Lady di ajang Golden Globe 2012.
Selain itu di kategori film terbaik, The Descendants dan The artist akan bersaing ketat untuk memperebutkan piala Oscar 2012. Keduanya diketahui sudah berhasil menyabet Film Terbaik: Drama dan Film terbaik: Komedi atau Musikal di ajang Golden Globe 2012 pada tanggal 15 Januari lalu.
Pagelaran Academy Awards ke-84 ini dinilai akan terasa sangat menarik, lantaran beberapa nominator dan jawara di ajang Golden Globe 2012 kembali masuk nominasi Oscar. Bahkan diantaranya ada yang tergabung dalam satu kategori untuk membuktikan siapa yang terbaik nantinya.
